Retreat
deny yourself = let God drive
spirituality : christian discipline

quarter of Americans claim to be Christians.  Why no salt to the culture?  Most activities are guided by money.  We dont have a Christian economy to encourage teh practice of our faith while making money.  How to earn your  bread when the culture demands godlessness?  Change the culture and promote godly behavior.  Need advertising, idea promotion, etc.

e.g. how would, could, should our christian faith change our culture and make a difference?  small steps would not do.  need clear visions for an entire people.

Christian discipline:  John Ober, The life you always wanted
training, not trying
e.g. sprint ten second, Beethoven ninth:  trying wont work

you have to do it to a great extend, set up patterns

A. disciplines need to be habitual patterns

B. object of Christian discipline is not the discipline itself. eg. object of prayer is not prayer itself, but instrument

C. faith = believe that Jesus knows how to live, and we should choose to live like Him.
The grand cholice of type of  life that we make will impact where we headed.

Breakdown the week into hours and 15mins, and see how we spend it.  Do we have 12 mins a day to read through the bible in a year?

D. Ultimate reason for disciploine:  to know God better, understand, experience, knowing God

Session 3.
Capture the moments and opportunity in our daily "time"

e.g. don't rush, have moments with our family, designate quiet  times to encounter God.

ex. Princeton seminary students tested to practice Good Samaritan.  The ones rushing didn't.  The ones with time did.  Nothing to do with our spirituality.

Just need to make time.  Set your priority and set extra time to make special life moments.  Make every opportunity to serve and love one another.

You will not choose to follow Jesus Christ until you are sure and convinced and rooted that Jesus loves you.
